January 9th, 2007: New Year’s Molotov Coctail (in a shot glass).
To me New Year’s Resolutions aren’t really that useful.
It’s easy to make promises, but twelve months is a long way from now, and your whole life can change in an instant, let alone in a year’s time. So to me it seems a little silly to try and tell yourself where you’ll be in your life a year from now, when the only thing guaranteed is that nothing in life stays the same.
Instead I just use it as a marker of time for reflection, and not an attempt to look ahead. What have I learned, what have I changed about myself, how have I grown? Am I the same Darlene from January 1, 2006? It’s true; many things look clearer in hindsight, and the only thing I really want to do is to continue to grow as a person, and to continue to venture into things I hadn’t before. To express myself and open up in ways that has become foreign and scary – I very often internalize my problems instead of opening up to the people who want to be there for me, and it’s been going on for so long that it’s a real challenge for me to do that. With all the other facets of my life I’ll just have to wing it – make my ‘resolutions’ (for lack of a better word) when the situation calls for it. I hope that on the approach of 2008 I will be a better, more peaceful and more focused person. ![]()
As for the ‘celebration’ part of the holiday, my Christmas was grand – did the whole family thing, and got a couple of nice gifts including clothes, an electric Sudoku game (score!
) and this:

This gorgeous watch ring – so cute!
The usual group came together to count down to 07. Two days prior I gasped in fear when Tony bounded into my house with this chemical in his hand.
Grave’s Grain Alcohol.
I didn’t know what it was either. If you thought this was bad, it has nothing on the sheer strength of this alcohol he left in my freezer. 190 proof, 95% alcohol. He stood there, expecting the worse from me as I inspected the bottle. He knew I was going to bitch, but I guess he’s a glutton for punishment. Time and time again I reiterate: I have no interest in getting a full nights worth of inebriation in one shot. It’s ridiculous. I was tempted to ask if it was unleaded but I refrained. No one would go near that thing. Hell, it’s still in my freezer.
I may give it to someone so they can use it for what it must have been made for – Molotov Coctails. They can do that off in the distance somewhere; I don’t think I’m wrong for assuming that’s the only way I’ll get rid of it.

We drank Patron and played drunken Jenga.
I can’t even begin to get into the antics that ensued, so I won’t. We’re a rowdy lot. I got a set of shot glasses from Crate & Barrel for the next time we play.

Ah, the fun. Will be taking a break from the fun stuff to refocus my attention to something I have in the works for the spring. The New Year looks bright and full of opportunity, which is why this update is quite late – I won’t jinx myself by saying anything but hopefully all the work I’ve been doing will pay off.

I agree with the resolution thing. I don’t see the point since … uh… I forget about keeping them after two weeks? XD
And Drunken Jenga is fun!!!!!
… And that alcohol … 195 proof? Holy cow.
I never saw a point in resolutions. They always turn out to be empty self promises. That watch is gorgeous! I don’t drink so I wouldn’t even look in the direction of that bottle lol. Glad to see you had fun. Happy New Year!
i love this layout! especially the navigation & the gingerbead men cookies! i will definitely add you to my links
anyhoo, i agree with you about resolutions. i still fool myself every year and make some that i try to at least keep for the first 3 months of the year. although every year my resolutions are the same: lose weight, get a man i can keep, and keep my grades up. so far, evey year i manage to keep the last one lol. i’ve never heard of grave’s grain alcohol .. and i probly know why lol. the worst i’ve heard is everclear and i think its 160 proof. i could be wrong. its banned in NY but my friend smuggled some from texas. drunk jenga seems like something fun to do. i think you just motivated me to buy a jenga set when i get back to school for some weekend fun lol. anyhoo let me stop rambling on. take care!
hey dee, i love the site it looks so serene!
i know sometimes them resolutions don’t work i actually just try to focus on my goals-long term goals.I know for some it works but it hasn’t had any success for me so i just let it be.
lol@drunken jenga i wanna play i bet yall had fun.oh the fun times
take care!
i googled the alcohol & saw this:
http://chesterfest.blogspot.com/2005_08_01_chesterfest_archive.html
that looks pretty good to me! you should try doing that with it! i swear, last night i was taking shot after shot of some russian imported vodka. my tolerance for liquor increased, whereas my tolerance for beer decreased. i used to be a strictly beer girl up until now.
Yeah, I stopped making resolutions a couple of years ago. I think waiting for the new year to realize that you need to make changes in your life is just a slick way to procrastinate it.
As for me, I started out my New Year totally different than any other New Year in my life and I didn’t even plan it that way. Which is why I appreciate it much more than anything else in the world.
Ok so missy im totally in love:lovestruck: with your profile/smilies haha.
I totally love your perspective on resolutions, i find them silly because after like a week i either forgot about it or had something come up that i couldnt keep up with it.
But wow i love your blogging i totally am going to be visiting here more
AHH drunken jenga, i really need to try that lol.
The last game i played drunk was at our christmas party too and it was called “Dirty Minds”. OH my goodness, the things that game makes you say lol.
Hello Dee.
Thank you kindly for the comment. I blame MySpace for the lack of visitors… Anyone can now live on a “bare necessities” diet of YouTube, MySpace and MSN. Including me, sadly.
Thats some pretty strong alcohol by the way…
Fantastic Snez.
My resolutions are usually projects I’ve already started or something I want to do but don’t really know why, such as this year’s, where I’ve given up drinking coffee. I love it, but it’s such a burden on my finances and health. =(
Anyways, I’m loving your website and I will definitely check back often. I look forward to seeing you more in the q*bee, too!
I love your site…it’s very beautiful. I glad your christmas was wonderful. Mine was ‘eh!’ if you know what I mean. What I wanted for christmas never came so I’m not really happy. Dealing with issues but I guess it’s life. I’m definitely not the same person from January 1, 2006. Too many things changed about me…
If you stop by in 2 days you’ll see my new blog and get to kno wme…I’ll be back again…I’m going to link you!
Lata ms. pretty!
95% alky? holy cow girl!!! that’s intense! haha
new years resolutions are pretty lame…you’re right a lot DOES change over the 365 days.
i definitely think its better to look back on your life and analyse than to look forward, because like you said, you just never know what’s gonna happen in a year’s time, or even, in a day’s time! i dont set short term goals for myself anymore, because i’ve learned that once a drastic change occurs, your goals will be put on hold or even be erased
WOW
I love your site! Very neat and organized
I hate sites that look like their content threw up!
Anyway, I found you through XXXMB.
I don’t do the whole New Years Resolution either. I’ve got too many other goals to worry about other than wether or not I can give up soda or something like that.
Oh man
190 proof!! Jinga is fun though!
i dont do new years resolutions anymore. i never do them anyway, lol. i have ideas and goals for the year but thats it :P
I’ve never understand the point in making resolutions for the new year. No one ever seems to keep them, so it seems like a complete waste of time. *lol* I say the new year is for getting ferschnickered!
WOO! Hee hee.
ICK - grain alcohol? That stuff can kill a large animal. XD
happy new year! (i know i’m very, very late lol)
yeah new years resolutions haven’t served many people well. but if you set a reasonable goal & truly commit yourself to it… the chances of you making that resolution are pretty high.
looks like you got some pretty sweet gifts & a great holiday.
good ish
oh yeah i forgot to ask if you wanted to link exchange… let me know

So true about resolutons - although I did make my own. hehe. No one ever keeps them, unless your resolution is to not keep them. LOL. Or if it’s something you really work hard for. I definately think growing as a person is the best resolution anyone can make.
I suck at those Sudoku games. I start them, but can never finish. I guess I just can’t sit down long enough to do them. They’re the big craze now tho. I see them everywhere I go.
first thing’s first. your smilies are adorable! :lovestruck:
ooh lovely pictures! especially that ring watch of yours!
and jenga! i can never get bored playing jenga!
That’s definitely what I think. The New Year should be a reflection of the good and the bad things of the previous year. What can you change, what can you make better, what/who should you let go…things like that. I think it’s foolish to make a resolution only to be forgettin within these 12 months. Most people don’t follow through with them anyhow.
Drunk Jenga is so much fun - that’s how we spent a good portion of new years too. Lol.
I made new years resolutions that I have been planning for a while and that I know are realistic… You’re right though, about how things can change in one year. I just hope that they change to help me achieve my goals
Yeah, i think we don’t make many of what we say we are going to.. anyways, jenga! it’s been some time since the last time i played! i miss that game!
Good luck with everything!
Yea. I feel you. IM not too big on resolution’s either. Kind of pointless. You get yourself all up to make them. Then. The second or third day. You done already broke like half the list .. x
Yeah I pretty much use New Years as a reflective time too - a way to find out the direction I’ve been heading in, how much I’ve grown/changed, thinking of what all has happened in the past year. Sometimes I’ll come up with ideas of what I’d like to do or where I’d like to be in a years time but I try to stay away from a ‘resolution’ because each time I call it that I fail (as happened this year haha).
The watch ring is beautiful.
Hey!

Wow, your site is great :lovestruck:
but I have a question… can i use those smilies on my page?:
:lovestruck:
of cause I will give credits… I ask only, because I can’t download them..
thanks, alice
yeah thanks for your answer! i didn’t wrote the link because my site isn’t finish yet! i respect your arguments! so i’ll leave them
Dee: OK, I understand & thank you.
try updating bitch.
beautiful wintery look site. its so calming
and love your watch ring, that’s so cute i’ve honestly never seen one before lol. but beautiful!
You have been tagged!
RULES: Each player of this game starts off with ten weird things or habits or little known facts about yourself. People who get tagged must write in a blog of their own ten weird things or habits or little known facts as well as state this rule clearly. At the end you must choose six people to be tagged and list their names. No tagbacks!
It is absolutely ridiculous that I am just seeing your christmas layout in the middle of february. I must admit it is cute as hell. Looks like yall had a wonderful time. I think I’m going to befriend a group of people so that we can partake in drunken uno.
Hii, Í’ve changed of domain!!
From sk3ptic to rooftop!
Good luck with everything! (:
